Bio:
Kathleen Mullen grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and the San Francisco Bay Area. She now lives in Vancouver. Canada. She has contributed to the programming, planning, and execution of film and festivals and events nationally and internationally for the past 20+ years. Kathleen works as a film programmer, festival director, and executive and artistic director.
Currently she programs for Victoria Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Vancouver Queer Film Festival, and Frameline: San Francisco LGBTQ+ festival. She is the VIP Talent Manager at the Whistler Film Festival and the Programming and Production Specialist for the Sustainable Production Forum. For over 8 festivals she was the Festival Director of the Seattle Queer Film Festival. She's worked as a lecturer at Simon Fraser University (Special topics, Skoden Indigenous Film Festival) and Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She was the Artistic and Education Director of Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival for three years. She has programmed for Toronto International Film Festival, Hot Docs, Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival, Provincetown International Film Festival, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
Kathleen loves consulting with filmmakers, up and coming festival programmers, and the new generation of arts administrators with her company Letter K Media. Kathleen has a Master of Arts from Carleton University and a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from York University. She has written and directed the short films you wash my skin with sunshine, Sleep Lines, Button OUT!, Sundowning, and the award-winning mid-length documentary Breathtaking.
